(note: moves that the pokémon learns naturally that also happen to be a tm or hm move can still count if you want. 83) the only guidelines we have for this style of moveset formation is that normally learned moves only replace normally learned moves, and tm moves only replace tm moves. the only exception to this is a naturally learned move that is also a tm move - you can choose to either replace a normally learned move or a tm move when it comes to these. so for example, say you have an ampharos whose moveset at level 67 is power gem, light screen, signal beam, discharge, fire punch tm, and toxic tm. when this ampharos levels up to level 68 and wants to learn thunder, you'll notice that it's a tm move as well as one the ampharos learns by leveling up. in this situation, you could replace any of said ampharos' six moves with thunder. but on the other hand, there are moves that do not work that way. let's take a level 58 ampharos now that knows light screen, signal beam, discharge, thunderpunch, fire punch tm, and toxic tm. it then levels up to level 59, and wants to learn power gem. in this situation, you can only replace light screen, signal beam, discharge, or thunderpunch. why? because power gem isn't a tm move. but that's pretty simple, right? c: if you have questions, please feel free to ask.
